Tell me this is my offspring without telling me
But on a more serious note… if you’re a parent, you can relate.
So, picture this, I decided to get up EARLY (yes, capital letters early) to prepare myself before the house woke up. You know that precious window of peace before the chaos begins? That time when the birds are singing, the coffee is hot, and you actually believe you’ll get through your to-do list? Yeah… that time.
And then, MADNESS. Whew, These Kids, like how I thought I Would Be The Rich Auntie, but I digress
Anyway, back to the story. I was in the shower, my sacred quiet time of reflection, prayer, thanksgiving, and all those wonderful grown-up moments that help you feel centered again.
Then I heard a knock at the door.
Now, here’s the part that made me proud: I said, “Who is it?” and instead of just barging in like the old days, a little voice on the other side of the door said, “It’s me!”
Aha! The privacy lessons are working. We’re growing, y’all!
But in that small moment, something deeper hit me.
Those two little words—“It’s me”—stayed in my spirit.
I thought, when I knock on The Door and say to God, “It’s me!”… does He recognize my voice instantly because we’ve spent time together, because we talk often, not just when I’m in a bind?
Or do I just assume He knows me because, well, He’s God, duh?
That simple moment in the bathroom turned into a gentle heart check. Do I speak with Him so regularly that there’s familiarity, that intimacy that comes with being known?
Because that’s what a relationship looks like. It’s not just me calling on Him when life gets wild, but also in those quiet, in-between, ordinary moments when no one’s watching.
The Bible says in John 10: 27–28 (KJV):
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
He knows our voice, and He desires for us to know His.
So the next time you whisper, “It’s me,” in the car, in the shower, in the middle of the madness, remember, He knows exactly who me is.
Sheba.
